Erin Reagan Voight Finding the truth is like deconstructing a milkshake
⚖ @kimburgess ⚖
Erin was frustrated with her husband. She was "at work" but right under his nose. Well she supposed since she had to be in court some of the days she really had no option but to get prepared of them. Handing over cases was almost always the most difficult. But really then who wanted THE States's Attorney hanging around the office. Erin was at Sharon's desk. Sharon was out for the week. Erin was also on the phone. "No. Unless I see a probably cause, there is no way I am going to take that a judge; much less even press charges in that case." There was a pause.
"You have a fingerprint, that is circumstantial at best. Can you tell me how many people entered the elevator that day, that week even? Plus you are telling me you lifted a fingerprint off a pile of multiple other fingerprints or did you get a suspect then find his fingerprint?" Yes Erin realized how stupid she sounded. "Find me something better than that Baez." Erin was not in a mood to be yanked around and certainly not by detectives. She sighed as she set her phone down on the desk. Now to finish where she left off, was it the Fisher case or the .. now she was confused. Maybe Hank was right, maybe she should have taken a few more days.

Kim sighs, she’s already grown tired of answering phone calls and entering things into the computer. ‘I didn’t sign up for this’ she mumbles to herself. She did however know exactly what it was that she had done to end up stuck in the office answering phone calls, helping ‘run down’ leads from behind the desk, and keeping an eye on the obviously very frustrated woman who was seated at Sharon’s desk. Her list of offenses had been made painfully clear to her that morning before all the others had jumped up and left in a hurry leaving her behind.
Waiting until the woman ended her phone call, Kim stood up walking around her desk and offered a hand to her. “Kim Burgess,” she starts, “I made the boss mad, but what are you in for?” She asks looking around the office. “Just figured since I was ‘keeping an eye on you’ I should at least know what dreadful offense it was that got you stuck in here with me.” She chuckles.
“You’re not a flight risk are you? I ask because, I’m going to have to leave the office here in a few minutes to go downstairs and be harassed mercilessly by Sargent Platt while on my way out the door. I’ll be going to get myself a sandwich from the deli on the corner and I’d be happy to call you one in if you’d like. You’re also more than welcome to come with me to pick it up if you want, I mean… at least it’d get you out from behind that dreadful desk and out of this office for a few minutes.” Joking she adds, “However, if you should decide to stay here and manage to escape or somehow get yourself hurt while I’m gone I will stop at nothing to find you because no matter how much I love my job…I’m not sure I could face Voight today or take this kind of punishment again.”

Erin Reagan Voight Finding the truth is like deconstructing a milkshake

Erin looked up when the girl who called herself Kim approached. Right she should probably get along with the team. "States Attorney. Erin Reagan - Voight" I wasn't like Hank and Erin were hiding anything anymore. She offered a hand. Oh so this hyper brunette had pissed off Voight. Ouch. Well Erin tried to stay on his good side, which clearly right now she had to have a babysitter? Honestly, did Voight not trust her while he turned his back for two seconds? Then again she couldn't blame him, she was upset and still kind of unstable.
"Needed to go back to work, get out of the house" she stated. It was the truth. The deal was if she went back to work she could stay here or she could be at the court house. "My husband doesn't have me under house arrest" she pointed out when Kim started going on about being a flight risk. Though Erin got a decent enough chuckle out of it for the day. Erin picked up her phone and texted Hank that she was going for lunch, so he wouldn't wonder to where she had wandered off.
“You know if you wanted company for the walk down the street you could have just asked" she mused as she got up from Sharon's desk and pushed the chair in. Maybe this was why Voight wanted her up here, she was fairly certain that someone was up here most of the day. Everyone came and went but it was never completely empty.

"States Attorney. Erin Reagan - Voight" Hearing the woman’s name, Kim inhales sharply and her eyes widen a bit as she looks at her. When Erin’s comment about her husband not having her under house arrest further confirms the new information, she shakes her head a bit. “Um, it’s very nice to meet you ma’am, and I..well I’m sorry about the flight risk comments, I clearly had no idea who I was talking to.” ‘Why me…’ is all Kim can think. “Oh…no, please you don’t have to go on my account...by any means, I’ve gone all by myself plenty of times. I just thought you might enjoy some fresh air. I know being locked in these four walls all day long is enough to drive me crazy, plus some company and someone to talk to wouldn’t be all bad. However…your husband DOES have me under house arrest, and I’m sure he’d probably want someone to keep an eye on me to make sure I wasn’t out trying to find something productive to do.” She smiles at Erin as she sees her getting up from the desk.
Kim’s phone starts buzzing with messages from Atwater giving her food orders from the rest of the team. “Looks like Sergeant shared the fact that we were going to lunch,” Kim says nodding at Erin’s phone, “and they must be planning on heading back here shortly, considering I just got everyone’s sandwich orders. So I am actually going to need you to come along and help carry all this food. If nothing else, I usually make sure that the Intelligence unit eats well.” She laughs and heads towards the stairs.

Erin Reagan Voight Finding the truth is like deconstructing a milkshake
⚖ @kimburgess ⚖
One of these days she was just going to shoot her namesake and her job title in the foot. Watching Kim putting her foot in her mouth was painful. Though the woman's voice was kind of annoying. Though Erin wasn't in a habit of being mean to anyone, especially not those who worked with Hank. Erin had tact even if her voice was annoying it didn't mean the woman herself was.
“I should actually finish up with..." she looked at the stack of case files in her briefcase on the desk. She had to sign off on paperwork that said she was officially pressing charges on cases and then give them to ASAs. Though she had told Hank she was going for lunch. "Excuse me detective? You need or you would like the help?" Erin wasn't impressed that the woman was seemed to talk without thinking.
Well Erin was just in a bad mood in general. Erin closed her briefcase and set it inside of Hank's office where it was least likely to get bothered with. She closed the door of the office back the way she had found it. Holding the door handle she closed her eyes for a minute. Reopening them she took a breathe and covered her pain. Distractions from work were never enough.

Kim backed a step away from the woman raising both of her hands in surrender, “Look I’m sorry if I did or said something to make you mad, what I meant was I could use… and would like your help carrying everything back if you’re willing…if not I’ll just take a car and pick it up. Either way will be perfectly fine with me. I mean I don’t know about you, but I could really use some fresh air right about now…and the short walk to the corner is just about perfect.” She finished up packing everything up as she watches Erin place her briefcase in Hank’s office.
Kim’s not quite sure exactly how to take this woman; but she obviously needs to change tactics the speaking to her as if she were a human being method didn’t seem to be working. Then it suddenly dawns on her and she feels incredibly stupid. ‘Maybe I should switch to the speaking to the boss’s grieving wife state of mind. Jesus how is it that I can be so stupid.’ She thinks to herself.
She looks at Erin again and sincerely appologizes, “Hey, Look…I’m sorry for snapping back…it was out of line.” Here she was letting a few snippy comments get under her skin when she knows that this woman has just lost her brother in the line of duty. She decides to try and keep the talking to a minimum from here on out and let Erin decide how much conversation goes on between the two, she definitely didn't feel like forcing anything.
Kim heads towards the stairs, checking over her shoulder to see if the other woman was following her before turning to face her. “So, what’s the verdict? Will you please forgive me and keep me company on the walk? I would appreciate it if you would.”

Erin Reagan Voight Finding the truth is like deconstructing a milkshake
⚖ End thread ⚖
Erin shook her head at Kim. "I think I am just going to stay here. I have things to do" Erin knew she had a lot to do. Right now she just wanted a distraction. She'd had worse days but she had also had better days. She had simply changed her mind. Not wanting to be in the company of anyone. In fact, she just wanted to hide under Hank's desk and not come out. But that wasn't going to happen. Erin knew that she had to be stronger than that.
Erin was probably being rude, but what else was she supposed to do. When she apologized Erin just nodded as she grabbed her briefcase and chunked it back on Sharon's desk. Hank was probably going to yell at her for not eating but she honestly didn't care about that right now. She'd figure out what she wanted to eat later, right now her appetite was completely gone. "We can catch up later." Erin added as she went back to her work.
